„2237 DNI” to projekt prezentujący historię Ireny Lasoty, która ponad 70 lat temu została zesłana na Syberię, historię brutalną i bolesną, jednak przepełnioną czystym pięknem opisywanych miejsc, krajobrazów, wydarzeń i ludzi.

Głównym celem jaki mi towarzyszył była próba rozrysowania trasy tej wieloletniej tułaczki, która trwała łącznie tytułowe 2237 dni, odnalezienie, zarówno w pamięci pani Ireny, jak i na mapach (polskich, pruskich, rosyjskich, kazachskich itd.), wszystkich miejsc, w których się w tym okresie pojawiła. Te, których nie udało mi się zlokalizować, postanowiłem wrysować w własnoręcznie stworzone mapy, będące jedynie moim wyobrażeniem o tych przestrzeniach, interpretacją słów pani Ireny, a co za tym idzie – próbą ich zmaterializowania, chociażby w geście kartograficznym. Całości towarzyszą rysunki miejsc, roślin, przedmiotów, które ściśle wiążą się z każdym miejscem oraz fragmenty opisujących je tekstów. Wszystko zostało zamknięte w formie ponad stu stronicowego albumu/książki.

Album prezentowany jest wraz z instalacją dźwiękową, składającą się z fragmentów nagrań, na których Irena Lasota opowiada swoją historię. Drugim istotnym elementem projektu jest przywołanie najważniejszego atrybutu tej konkretnej podróży, czyli kamieni kolejowych.

Praca ta stanowi zarówno próbę „spisania” i zachowania tej historii, próbę uchwycenia ulotnej pamięci, jak również dookreślenia i zmaterializowania miejsc, których dotyczy, a w konsekwencji – przekazania jej dalej. Projekt ten odnosi się też do prezentowania tego typu historii, stawia pytanie o ich autentyczność, czy – tak jak w tym kontekście – jest ona prawdą historyczną, zniekształconą przez wiele lat opowieścią pani Ireny, czy wreszcie – tylko moją interpretacją jej słów.

„2237 DAYS” is a project presenting the story of Irena Lasota, who was sent to Siberia over 70 years ago, a brutal and painful story, but filled with the pure beauty of the places, landscapes, events and people described.

The main goal that accompanied me was to attempt to draw the route of this long wandering, which lasted a total of 2237 days in the title, to find, both in the memory of Irena and on the maps (Polish, Prussian, Russian, Kazakh, etc.), all places where during this period she appeared. Those that I could not locate, I decided to draw in the maps I created myself, which are only my idea of ​​these spaces, interpretation of Mrs. Irena’s words, and thus – an attempt to materialize them, even in a cartographic gesture. The whole is accompanied by drawings of places, plants, objects that are closely associated with each place and fragments of texts describing them. Everything was closed in the form of over a hundred page album / book.

The album is presented along with a sound installation, consisting of fragments of recordings, in which Irena Lasota tells her story. The second important element of the project is recalling the most important attribute of this particular journey, i.e. railway stones.

This work is both an attempt to „write down” and preserve this story, an attempt to capture the ephemeral memory, as well as to specify and materialize the places to which it relates, and in consequence – to pass it on. This project also refers to the presentation of this type of story, raises the question of their authenticity, whether – as in this context – it is a historical truth, distorted by many years tale of Irena, or finally – only my interpretation of her words.
